DAY2 FUKUOKA/NAGASAKI

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Nagasaki for a school visit on cultural exchange and immersion.

National Education: Understand the Japanese education system
Case Study: Of the Pacific War and the Atomic Bomb
History/Experiential Learning: Reflect on how Nagasaki recovered from WWII. Study the effects of the A bomb from the perspective of a doctor and victim.

DAY3 NAGASAKI/KUMAMOTO

Breakfast at hotel and check out
-School Visit at a local junior high school for an educational exchange
We learn about traditional SORAN dance as a performing art.
Lunch at a local restaurant in Obama
-Jigoku Hot Springs at Unzen
-A town covered with mud due to thermal activity in Shimabara
-Historic samurai residences
We cross the sea to Kumamoto Prefecture by ferry.

We learn how cultural performance arts are conducted in Japan.
The effects of volcanic eruptions on human settlements: How volcanic activities affect its surrounding areas, e.g. agriculture.

DAY4 KUMAMOTO/ASO

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to a high school in Kumamoto for a school visit on cultural exchange and immersion. The students can learn about the traditional Japanese sword fighting sport of Kendo.

Lunch at a local restaurant
Proceed to Mt. Aso National Park to the world’s largest live volcano Mt. Aso.
-Volcano Museum
Dinner and hot spring experience at traditional Japanese inn with tatamis and yukata.
Debrief and Lights out

Educational Exchange: We build ties with Japanese school and learn their activities.
Discover the relationship between the environment and the people in Aso Town and how life is like living in a caldera.

DAY5 ASO/KURUME/FUKUOKA

Breakfast at Japanese inn and head towards Kurume
-Kurume Science Museum to see the latest in Japanese scientific discoveries.
-Traditional Japanese Noh Theater to learn about a centuries old Japanese cultural art form
Lunch at a local restaurant
-the Education University of Fukuoka to lean the art of Japanese calligraphy
-Tenjin, the city center of Fukuoka City to observe street culture and Japanese urban life
-Hakata Canal City, a retail center with a canal in it
