April 2, Sun.
LEAVE LOS ANGELES
10:00 a.m. Check in at Los Angeles International Airport, Bradley Terminal, Japan Airlines. After you get your boarding pass, find out the departure gate number and time to be there.  You will have free time until boarding time.

1:10 p.m. Leave Los Angeles on board Japan Airlines Flt. 61, non stop to Tokyo/Narita.  En route, cross the International Date Line, losing one day which is re-gained on the return flight.  Estimated journey time: 11 hours, 50 minutes.  Aboard your flight, enjoy movies, games, music.  Breakfast is served about one hour before arriving at Tokyo Narita Airport.

NOTE:  Before your arrival in Tokyo, please make sure your Embarkation Cards are signed and completed by each passenger.  Also, the Japanese Customs Declaration Form must be completed – one per family.  Keep these together with your passport as they are required for entry procedures.

April 3, Mon.
ARRIVE TOKYO/NARITA AND CONTINUE TO  OSAKA                           

4:45 p.m.
Upon arrival and after immigration and customs procedures, we will proceed with our big baggage (complimentary baggage carts are available) to the domestic terminal for the flight to Osaka/Itami Airport.

6:30 p.m. 
JALFlight 3007 leaves for Osaka.  Estimated journey time:  1 hour 25 minutes.

7:55  p.m.
Arrive Osaka/Itami Airport
Our Japan guide will be waiting for us and will take us to our hotel.

IMPERIAL HOTEL, OSAKA (2 nights)

April 4, Tue.
IN OSAKA  (B – L)

9:00 a.m. Leave for Osaka Mint Museum.  We will enjoy visiting with English audio sets. The Mint Museum is the only western-style brick building remaining from the Meiji era on the premises of the Japan Mint.

Originally constructed as a thermal power plant, in 1969 the building was refurbished into the Mint Museum, with the facade left in its original state in order to preserve this historical building and establish a facility for introducing the Japan Mint’s activities to the public.  We hope to see the beautiful cherry blossoms in this area.

10:30 a.m.  Leave for Osaka Castle.
Osaka Castle is one of Japan’s most famous, and played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century of the Azuchi-Momoyama period

11:00 a.m.  Visit the Castle and leave for Dotonbori, one of Osaka’s most popular tourist destination, the street runs parallel to the Dotonbori canal.  It is a popular shopping and entertainment district and is also known as a food destination.  Lunch and free time in Dotonbori.

12:30 a.m.  Afternoon free for independent activities

Dinner on your own tonight.  Our guide will be in the lobby from 5:30 p.m. to offer suggestions and assistance.

NOTE:  Please  prepare your flight bag or overnight bag with your necessities for the first night in Hiroshima  You will be asked to put your large suitcase outside your door in the morning.  This will be shipped ahead to Hiroshima and you will receive it on April 6, Sun.

April 5, Wed.
OSAKA –  HIROSHIMA  (B – L)                                                                             
After breakfast, check out of hotel, settling any incidental charges to your personal account.

9:00 a.m.  Leave for Shin-Osaka Station to board train toi Hiroshima.
9:45 a.m.  Leave on Nozomi
11:06 a.m.  Arrive Hiroshima Station.

After arrival, we will proceed to our hotel for lunch.

Then visit the Peace Memorial Park and the Museum, first the A-Bomb Dome which is the Symbol of the “peace city, Hiroshima.  Visit a beautiful and tranquil space surrounded by Water and greenery.  See the Meemorial Cenotaph with prayers for peace from all over the world.  And finally the Peace Memorial Museum gives an opportunity to learn of the outcome of the bomb attack and consider what peace really means through many reference materials.

Check in at our hotel.

RIHGA ROYAL HOTEL HIROSHIMA (2 nights)

Dinner on your own.  Our guide will be in the lobby to offer any assistance.

April 6, Thu.
HIROSHIMA –  MIYAJIMA – HIROSHIMA  (B – L)

8:30 a.m.  We will visit the third of Japan’s “Scenic Trio,” Miyajima, today. Leaving the hotel this morning, we will first visit the Iwakuni Kintai Bridge and continue to Miyajima, where we will visit the colorful Itsukushima Shrine. A local specialty, “okonomiyaki” lunch is included today.  Return to hotel around 2:30 p.m.  Rest of day free for independent activities.

Dinner on own this evening.

NOTE:  Please  prepare your flight bag or overnight bag with your necessities for the one night Kurashiki.  You will be asked to put your large suitcase outside your door in the morning.  This will be shipped ahead to Kyoto and you will receive it on April 8, Sat.

April 7, Fri.

8:30 a.m.   Leave for Hiroshima Station.
9:07 a.m.   Leave Hiroshima on Shinkansen Kodama
10:12 a.m.   Arrive Shin-Kurashiki Station.

Transfer to hotel:

Lunch is on your own.  We will explore the Kurashiki Bikan Area, visiting two major sights in the Bikan Area.

1:00 p.m.    Leave for afternoon sightseeing tour of Kyoto, visiting three of the most famous tourist spots.

Check out of hotel, and proceed to train track.

8:41 a.m.   Leave Kyoto by Thunderbird
11:01 a.m.   Arrive Kanazawa.
After arrival, time will be given for lunch on your own.  Then sightseeing of Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle.  Kenrokuen is justifiably classified as one of Japan’s “three most beautiful landscape gardens.”
The spacious garden used to be the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle.

KANAZAWA EXCEL HOTEL TOKYU (1 night)

April 11,  Tue.
KANAZAWA – TAKAYAMA    (B – D)

9:00 a.m.   Leave hotel for Kanazawa.  En route, we will visit the historic village of Shirakawa-go, a World Heritage site famous for its gasshozukuri-style farmhouses.  Time will be given at Shirakawa-go for lunch on your own.  Arrive at our hotel around 4:30 p.m.

6:30 p.m.   Enjoy a Japanese dinner in our hotel this evening.

HIDA HOTEL PLAZA (2 nights)

Note:  Tonight prepare your flight bag or overnight bag with your necessities for one night in Hakone. You will be asked to put your big suitcase outside your door in the morning.  It will be shipped to Tokyo. 

April 12, Wed.
IN TAKAYAMA    (B)

8:30 a.m.   Leave by bus for a sightseeing tour of Takayama.  Visit the morning market along Miyagawa River, then to Hachiman Shrine where Yatai floats are displayed.  See an incredible miniature replica of the Toshogu (Nikko) Shrine; and Kusakabe House, a typical wood house built for a rich merchant 200 years ago.  Walk along “Kamisannomachi,” or Upper Third Merchant Street where there are many shops for souvenir hunters.

Tour ends around 12 noon.  You may wish to stay in town on your own.

Dinner on your own.  Suggestions will be given for dinner.  The hotel provides a nice dinner selection at reasonable prices on the second floor.

Sightseeig Hakone and Tokyo

April 13, Thu.
TAKAYAMA – HAKONE      (B – D)

Check out of hotel.

7:20 a.m.   Walk to the Takayama Station (a short 5 minutes).
8:00 a.m.   Leave Takayama on Wide-View Hida
10:33 a.m.  Arrive Nagoya.  Change trains.   (Time to buy a box lunch to eat on the train.)
11:24 a.m.   Leave Nagoya on Hikari
12:35 p.m.   Arrive Odawara Station.

Sightseeing in Hakone, touring the area, enjoying the boat ride on Lake Hakone and weather permitting, a cable-car ride with spectacular views.

TENSEIEN RYOKAN (1 night)

April 14, Fri.
HAKONE – TOKYO    (B – L)

Check out of hotel.

Leave Tenseien and proceed to Odawara Station.

9:42 a.m.   Leave Odawara by Kodama
10:09 a.m.   Arrive Tokyo Shinagawa Station

Leave for sightseeing,  We will visit the Nijubashi (Double Bridge) before enjoying lunch at Yamato Restaurant near Ginza.  Then we will proceed to Asakusa and visit Sensoji Temple, popularly known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, Tokyo’s oldest and most popular temple, located in one of Tokyo’s liveliest amusement centers.
Proceed to our hotel via Ginza area, arriving around 4:20 p.m.

Dinner on your own this evening.  Our guide will be in the banquet lobby around 5:30 p.m. to offer suggestions.

IMPERIAL HOTEL (2 nights)

April 15, Sat.
IN TOKYO    (B – D)

Enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast on the 17th floor, Imperial Viking Restaurant Sal.  Open from 7 a.m.

Full day at leisure to explore this exciting city independently.  There are various things to do in Tokyo on your own; for instance, a visit to the Tokyo Edo Museum, browsing the Ginza area, etc.  The Imperial Hotel has a Guest Relations desk in the Main Lobby where there are knowledgeable Imperial Hotel staff members available to assist you.

6:30 p.m.   Farewell dinner in our hotel this evening.

April 16, Sun.
TOKYO – LOS ANGELES    (B)

Morning free for your independent activities or last-minute packing.

12:00 noon   Place big bags outside your door for pickup by the porters.
12:45 p.m.   Check out of hotel and be ready to leave for the airport.
1:00 p.m.   Leave hotel by the regularly scheduled Airport Limousine Bus.
2:40 p.m.   Approximate arrival at Tokyo/Narita Airport, Terminal 2. Proceed to the JAL counter.
5:25 p.m.   “Sayonara” to Japan as we leave Tokyo/Narita Airport by JAPAN AIRLINES Flight 62.    Re-cross the International Date Line, gaining the day lost going over.  Arrival is the same day you left Japan.  Journey time: 9 hours, 45 minutes.  Dinner will be served about 1-1/2 hours after getting on the plane. 

NOTE:  Before arriving at Los Angeles, a U.S. Customs Declaration form must be completed for entry back into the United States – only one per family is required.

11:15 a.m.   Arrive Los Angeles International Airport, ending your 2023 Yamato Deluxe Spring Tour to Japan.  Hope you will have lots of wonderful memories!
